Dwarf Goldenrod Solidago nana Aster family (Asteraceae)
Solidago nana is distinguished by minute flowers atop stiff, red stems, often with masses of that can cover several square feet. Solidago nana is very similar to S. simplex but leaves on S. nana are finely and densely short-hairy; leaves of S. simplex are (smooth and without hairs). Thomas Nuttall discovered this plant (probably in the mid 1830s) and described it in 1841.
, 5-20" tall, densely covered with short, fine hair. in a tuft and stem leaves up to 4" long, wider at the tip, hairy, with a gray green appearance, smooth or slightly on the margins. Small yellow flowers, about 1/4" high, arranged in a tight, slightly rounded cluster.
